Odense News: Monitoring Urban Runoff with Sensors

The D4RUNOFF sensor arrived in Odense during the summer, where it remained until the end of October before continuing its journey to Pontedera for the final phase of the project.

After its deployment in Santander, the sensor collected valuable data on urban runoff and water quality. It recorded information from three rainfall events, analysing the presence of metals, pesticides, plastics, and chemical additives across various product types.

Our local team at VCS played a crucial role in maintaining and monitoring the sensor throughout its stay in Odense. At the same time, laboratory staff collected parallel water samples to validate the sensor’s performance. These samples are now being sent to the University of Copenhagen for detailed comparison and verification of the results.

This collaborative effort marks another important step in understanding how innovative sensor technologies can support cities in managing and reducing urban water pollution.

Stay tuned — the next article in the sensor journey series will spotlight the work taking place in Pontedera.
